Principal Bass - Mark Mckeown
A member of the band since the early 1970's, Mark is not only our principal bass player but also the current treasurer of Shotts Band - a position he has held for over 20 years. In his time leading the bass team not only have Mark and the boys been awarded the best bass section (Borders 2011) as well as Championship wins in 2002 and 2005 but Mark also won the 'best instrumentalist' medal at the Carnegie Contest in 2005.
Eb Bass - Martin Myszker
Martin recently returned to the Shotts bass team from a short spell with the Newmains and District Band. Prior to this Martin played baritone with team Shotts. A retired Policeman, Martin has been involved in brass bands for over 40 years and in that time recounts his favourite banding memory the band's performance at the Blackpool Miner's Contest of 1973 when the band won the 3rd section with 'Overture Promenade' and his favourite piece of brass music is the original 'Les Preludes'.
Bb Bass - Tommy Nayles
The definition of a stalwart is 'a loyal, reliable, and hard-working supporter of or participant in an organization or team' and this certainly describes our Tommy. Tommy has been in brass bands for over 50 years. He has also played with The Bathgate Band. Not only is Tommy a very active member of the Shotts Committee but he also currently works with our learner organisation, looks after the band hall and also assists in the general running of the Shotts Band - from helping with the library to even a bit of conducting when needed!
